Work Party News 28th January on

Extensive clearance work is being done along the Flitch Way from Pods Brook to Rayne!

Another challenge for our volunteers began at Pods Brook on 28th January. The task being to open up this part of the Flitch Way taking out the intrusive blackthorn and bramble and letting in the sunlight thus improving the grassland areas. This should also allow wild flowers that have previously lay dormant to come up and grow along this stretch. We  have been able to get rid of the scrub produced by using the chipper so once the trees had been cut down and stacked by one group of volunteers, another group dragged it up to the area for chipping.

This next group of photos speak for themselves, those of you who walk this route regularly can already see the improvements that have been made by the clearance work done so far. Below we are looking down the Flitch Way from the footbridge at Pods Brook Road westerly towards Rayne.

Below is the view East from the little wooden bridge over the brook back towards the footbridge

and from the wooden bridge on towards Rayne

There is still a great deal still to be cleared as can be seen from the pictures below.

Watch this space to see the changes over the next few weeks.
