Levelly Wood

The wood is a mixture of ancient and secondary woodland including oak, hornbeam coppice, sweet chestnut plantation and contains two ponds. A small but enthusiastic volunteer group meets several times during the winter to carry out essential conservation tasks such as clearing ponds, glade creation, and sycamore control. Important species here include cowslip, early purple orchid and stag beetles. It has been designated a Local Wildlife Site through the Essex Wildlife Sites Project (reference number Bra43 Shalford park/Levelly Wood). |
